One Word

Tumor. It's a small word and simultaneously gigantic word. It kind of rips a hole in your gut while leaving your brain numb. It's a word. An ugly, stupid word. Five letters with so much power. It creates fear, worry, concern, and silent chaos.

Silent because no one wants to worry out loud. Let's wait and see what the doctor says. Let's wait and hope it's benign. Let's check for more. Let's see what the risks are. Let's stay hopeful and supportive. Let's not think of the worst...even though sometimes the worst creeps into your thoughts without permission.

Uncle Kevin has a tumor. It's the size of a ping pong ball and it's in his brain. We hope it's not malignant. The doctor says it needs to come out and they'll biopsy it to see what "it" is. The body scan says there are no more tumors to be found. Everyone is hopeful. Everyone is supportive. He is in good spirits and is just happy they found it now before it got "too serious". His glass is more than half full.

Uncle Kevin is very important and special to Hubbs. He was kind of like a second dad to him growing up. He was in our wedding and he's always lit up Hubbs' heart. Tomorrow at 4 p.m. Eastern the doctors will make a small incision in his head and remove the tumor with lasers. I know Hubbs will have a hard time getting anything done because his mind will be in Florida with Uncle Kevin. So will the rest of the family's hearts and minds. So will mine.

Thing good thoughts. My co-worker (Harley on my blog) had a brain tumor a few years ago, got surgery to remove it, and survived!

I'm thinking all sorts of wonderful thoughts about Uncle Kevin and the miracle that is modern medical technology.

I'm not sure if I wrote a response to this post or only thought it, but you are all in my thoughts today and I wish the very best for everyone!!

oh, god. yeah, that's the worst word, besides the c-word. i remember hearing that about my dad. mindset is really key during this time for everyone, including uncle kevin. i am positive that positive thoughts nad prayers (if you believe in that kind of thing) brought my dad through, and my uncle tom (who sounds a little like uncle kevin). it's hard not to think the worst, but things are already looking as good as they can with the issue at hand. i totally know this sinking feeling, but i also know you can make it, Hubbs can make it, and Uncle Kevin can make it. if you ever, ever need to talk, i'm here.
