UFC is a mix of martial arts, boxing, and wrestling. Interesting. The under card fights consisted of 3 five minute rounds of almost-anything-goes fighting. The main, or title match, fight was set for 5 five minute rounds. The competitors are generally in supreme physical condition and have an amazing level of endurance to last all scheduled rounds. I've heard that some of the matches can be brutal, but we didn't see anything worse than what a boxing match provides. Granted, that can be brutal enough for some people.
Overall it was interesting. One of the things that UFC enthusiasts seem to be proud of is that it's less harmful in regards to injury than boxing because there is very little contact with the fighters' heads. Yeah....well, everyone got pummeled in the head last night. Maybe we just got the special treatment for our first time.
There were some exciting moments in some of the matches we watched. Unfortunately, the main event was somewhat of a let down. It lasted a little more than a minute with about 15 seconds of real "action". (Sounds like stories of some women's "first times". Ha!) Oh well. Maybe the next time it will live up to the hype. :) We'll probably watch it again if it's on at someone's house, but we won't buy it for ourselves. At least not at this point.
