Today is a day to celebrate the men in the world who've stepped up to the challenge of fatherhood. It is also a day to commend those who've stepped into the role of "father" where the position was previously vacant. Of course, there are those who have the delicate task of learning how to raise a child where their biological influences still play an active role in their lives. That is no easy feat and the willingness to attempt such a thing leaves me in awe of what the human heart is capable of accomplishing.Becoming a parent is some scary shit and in this day and age it seems that too many decide to tap out of that task. Of course it is my belief that these are not "men" but instead cowardly scum. The real men of this world face the challenge head on, whether they are scared or not, and make the effort to do the best they can every day regardless of the previous day's failures. I thank the universe that my Dad made the decision to stick around and give it his best shot. I also thank the universe that Hubbs took on the challenge. I know he doesn't think it's a big deal because he loves Lil Man and does things out of this love, but I know it's a huge deal and not everyone is willing to step up like that.
Today is also a day to recognize those women who trudge through life every day taking care of babies who will grow up to ask, "Why did my Dad leave?" and "Where is my Dad and why didn't he come for Christmas?". These are the easier things to deal with. Broken hearts, angry tears, questions never asked, and all the things in between threaten to destroy what these women work so hard to build and provide. You are the Fathers who deserve recognition for your fortitude and hard, thankless work.
Happy Father's Day to all of you. You are all amazing and I appreciate you very much!
Sperm Donor, none of this good stuff is directed towards you. You are one of the ones that tapped out.
