New Kid at the Block

Today concluded my second official work day at the Tax Job. I haven't started a new job in almost six years. I haven't started working at any new place where I didn't know any of the faces I'd be sharing office space with in...um...well...never. Now that I think about it, I have never worked in a place where I didn't know at least one other person in all of my 12 working years. It's strange and, on some level, exciting.

I was a little nervous, I'm not gonna lie. Starting somewhere new with all new people opens up the door to all new possible issues. What if they don't like me? What if I don't like them? What if I get there and wind up hating it? What will I do if the manager is a tool? Will I have a client on the first day? What if I'm really good at what I do and have to deal with jealous bitches as a result? This may not seem like an issue, but it almost inevitably is because if I'm good I will get more clients. More clients = more commission for me. More for me = jealous bitches.

Then you have the material issues. What should I wear for my first day? If I dress up too much will I look like a tool? What if I don't dress up enough? Will they think I'm a ghetto slob? Not too much make-up--don't want to look like a painted whore. Please let this be a good hair day because I don't want to sport a fro on the first day.

I think it's normal to be a little anxious about the first day. Overall I was pretty calm about it all. I just hoped it would go well. And I hoped I would like at least one other person in the office.

So far, it's good. I met the manager and he doesn't seem to be a tool. The other people in the office seem cool, but I've only talked to two of the other 5 for any length of time. I think I looked nice. I wore gray slacks, black button up shirt, and black heels. It was a fairly decent hair day and a whore did not look back at me when I looked in the mirror before leaving. I was on time and found parking with no problem. All in all, things went pretty smoothly.

Now it's time to work on learning more and getting some clients. I need 150 completed returns by the end of tax season. Maybe I can get 200 and ensure that there will be some jealous bitches. ;)
