Anniversary part deux

We made it! Our first wedding anniversary was on Sunday and I have to tell you, we had a really great weekend to celebrate. I will warn you though…this is going to be a long and you may need a bucket or some tissues depending on how you feel about really sentimental, mushy stuff. ;)

We started off Sunday per usual--clean up, watch "insert sport here", and make sure Lil' Man has his chores done and room cleaned. Nothing terribly exciting, but it has to get done. I guess it doesn't matter that a year ago we were being showered with attention and love...now we're just showering. :/

As Sunday night rolled around, we got into anniversary mode. I made dinner for the family--steak and mashed potatoes per request. Fun fact: I made dinner the night before our wedding so we could all sit down for a relaxing meal together before the craziness of the next day kicked in. It was a nice night and now we semi-recreated it. During the whole prep and cooking process I kept noticing all the things I used that were wedding and bridal shower gifts. Strange but fun.

Once dinner was done, it was time to be brave and attempt to eat our wedding cake. Yes, the same cake from last year that had been carefully packed and frozen. I'd been defrosting it in the fridge since Thursday and it was ready. Or so I'd hoped. We didn't know what it would taste like so we were a little apprehensive to try it...

It's was good!! Good thing because I really wanted some of that marble cake with chocolate cream. Mmmmm......mmmmmm....It wasn't as completely fresh as the first time, but it was still pretty moist and didn't taste like freezer burn. Truth be told, I had a back up plan in case it didn't work out so well. I contacted the bakery that made the cake the first time and they said they'd give us a top layer for $25. I think I still may do this next weekend even though ours worked out. I guess I'm a cake whore.

After the cake situation, we sat down to have a champagne toast. It was really sweet. We toasted to a year of ups and downs--thankfully more ups--, to loving each other more today than we did a year ago, and to a future filled with more of the same happiness.

Now, it's time to rewind the clock and look back at our wedding day. We fired up the DVD player and watched the amazing wedding video made for us by Mike and Joe at TTD Weddings. It's funny...after a year that day is still pretty clear in our minds. We remember little details, conversations, and still feel the overwhelming love of that day. It was a time in our lives that can not be taken away and we were so happy to be able to share it with our friends and family. Watching our wedding video just brought it back that much more for us. I am so glad we have it. Listening to the words we spoke to each other and the words we chose for the ceremony was really special.

It was a really nice way to end the night. Well...almost. I had been wanting to wear my wedding dress ever since I took it off a year ago, and I decided to go ahead and do it. Of course, it doesn't fit like it did back then thanks to the post wedding lbs. I've picked up, but it was still pretty fun to put it on again. I grabbed the veil for the full effect and posed for a couple of pictures. Hubbs and I attempted to take our own picture too. Yeah....that didn't work out too well, but we had fun doing it! I now am the proud owner of several photos featuring my cheek, forehead, and eyes as well as the same parts on Hubbs.

So, we made it through the year and we are a very happy little family. We've had our ups and downs during the course of the last 12 months, but nothing we couldn't handle. And we've had more ups than downs. That's what makes the bond stronger, right? Surviving the ups and downs. I guess you never know where life is going to take you, but I'm glad to be with these people for the ride. :)

Thanks for sticking with this very long recap of our anniversary celebration. I hope it was worth it!
