Last Thursday night I took Lil' Man to his basketball game. It was one of the most exciting games I'd seen him play in. It was neck and neck the entire way through the game and those little guys battled. One side would score, then the other would answer with their own basket. Free throws actually became reasons to cheer or let out small sighs of sadness. Oh man, it was intense. The best part--we won! It was a two point game and we came out ahead. What a game!
After that was over we rushed and did the dinner thing, packed up the car with all our weekend gear, and I headed off to take Lil' Man to my Mom's house for the weekend. After that I drove to my Dad's house to sleep over. Hubbs was going to work the next day and then flying out from there to meet us in Vegas. It worked out nicely.
We had a very fun weekend with the parents. I'm really glad we went. Friday night was dinner at the Seafood Buffet in the hotel. After that the parents went off to gamble for the night and we went bowling at Lucky Strike. It wasn't exactly what we'd planned to do, but once we realized that the parentals were not budging from the machines we made due. Bowling turned out to be a lot of fun. We had a couple of drinks and bowled for a couple of games. Hubbs likes to thank me in public for being such a good sport about losing my ass in the games...but it was the other way around. ;)
Saturday night we went to the Toni Braxton show. I say show as opposed to concert because there was more audience interaction and dancing than singing. It was more entertaining than we had anticipated. I will say that her tough years of performing have worn her voice down a bit. She looked good though and we liked the show overall. I didn't realize my Dad had such a crush on her until the show. You learn something new every day.
Sunday came and it was time to head out. Dad likes to leave Vegas early so we were up and out by 8:30 a.m. and did not look back. Smooth sailing on the 15 freeway.........until the tire blew out. Nice. It was completely shredded and we were on the side of the road before we even got to Baker.
At one point they had loosened the lug nuts somewhat and had the car up on the jack. When they started back in on the lug nuts to remove the tire the car started rocking back and forth. Crash! The car was now without a tire and off the jack in the gravel on the side of the road. Dad threw in the towel and pulled out his cell to dial AAA. At that point I calmly walked over, picked up the jack, and started to wind it back down. "All we have to do is put it back up on the jack," I said. I got to work and got the car back up on the jack while Hubbs put the spare tire on. AAA said it was at least a 70 minute wait until they arrived. No thanks guys...we're good. ;)
So we finally got back to my parents house and we chuckled about the tire situation a bit on the way home. (My Dad said he told everyone that his daughter changed the tire when he got to work). We showered and Hubbs dropped me off at my friend's bridal shower while he went off to pick up Lil' Man and unload the luggage. It was a busy Sunday and I was glad to see home when we finally got there.
As we got out of the car Hubbs yelled out some explicative in the direction of his car. "What the hell?!?" he said. "I have a flat tired!!"
"You've got to be kidding me" is all I could think. Sure enough I rounded the corner and there was his car tire--flat. Two flat tires in one day. Fan-tas-tic. We got Lil' Man tucked into bed and headed back down to the garage with a dinky little flashlight and got to work on changing it. It was easier to change the second one...I don't know if that's because I had practice or because I had better equipment. Regardless, I was tired (pun intended) by the end of the night and ready to go to sleep.
