Monday

Freedom = fun time...?

Does it? I don't know. Lil' Man has been gone since Saturday morning and we haven't done all that much in the way of "fun". For seven whole days we are kid free. He has an itinerary set up for the week with the Grandparents-in-law that would make any kid jealous (hell, I'm even a little jealous) and we have the entire world to explore.

Want to eat at a fancy pants restaurant where the kid would probably order mac 'n cheese? Done. Want to go away for the weekend and spend the night in a posh retreat? Go for it. Couples massage followed by a lazy lunch? You got it! "Hey," plenty of people have said, "you can run around naked at home now if you want. Lil' Man's gone for a week." (By the way...who actually does this?? And why is it always the first thing people suggest we can do with our free time now??)

We've got nothin' but time and no one waiting at home that needs to go to bed by a certain hour, get picked up after work, or any need for a babysitter to make plans. So do it. Decide what the world has to offer (within your budget) and make it happen. How did we spend the first two days of kid-less time? We go to Target, buy storage units, and we cleaned Lil' Man's room from top to bottom.

*shaking head* I'm embarrassed by us.

Yes folks, we used our Saturday to buy storage stuff and our Sunday putting it together and cleaning. Exciting, I know. Watch out world.

It wasn't all a lost weekend. Saturday after we finished our shopping extravaganza we managed to see a movie around 4:30 and have dinner afterwards. It's funny, but there were only about 20 people in that theater watching Oceans 13 with us and I'd say that 90% of them were...um...mature in their walk of life. I guess Saturday afternoons are favorable for cotton heads. And us. Whatever, we both really enjoyed the movie and I had an adult frosty beverage for dinner AND calamari. I was happy. :)

Sunday morning I woke up and decided to tackle the $30 bookshelves we purchased to house Lil' Man's ridiculous amount of books. I flipped on HGTV and got to work assembling my faux wood (check out the shiny backing...it's cardboard, ha!) masterpiece with all the design shows playing in the background. About 2 1/2 hours later it was done. Yay me! And then the real work began with cleaning and throwing out stuff he'll never miss. I'm proud of myself though; I've never put anything together like that before and for the price we paid, I think we did good.

So, it's Monday and my poor back is aching along with my shoulders. We didn't run off to sample rare cheeses or fine wines in some quaint coastal city during our free time, but we made good use of it. Hubbs was actually into getting this stuff done...I had to take advantage of that! Lil' Man had better have enough fun for all 3 of us because obviously we aren't going to have much to report upon his return.

I love how people suggest running naked around the house. (Confession: I never wear pants at home, so maybe I am one example. Ha!)

No need to go nuts with the freedom. Here's an easy thing to do -- rent a ton of R-rated movies that you haven't been able to see in the past few months or even years. You can catch up!
